Lights from Music

The birth of music is of vibration from human voices or instruments. How are harmonies born in the imagination of the creative artist? It is a secret. The vibrations come into being as they are experienced as sound perceived in the attire of music. This secret has always been amazing and wonderful for me. My wonder and amazement has not been changed by the course of my professional training in the rational breakdown of the study of styles, the analysis, the investigation and the explanation. Listening to such clear musical pieces is important for my soul. I am amazed and moved, as if I were listening for the first time, perhaps with the excitement and amazement of a child.

Music is experienced through vibration, vibration is its material. The body, the body fluids, the blood, the hormones, the marrow and the nervous system all take up the vibration. Music is for the inner parts, the “guts” as they say in English, as well as for the mind, the memory, the sense of logic and knowledge. It is sensation.

Is it nothing more?

In the language of materials, a self-portrait by Rembrandt is merely paint and canvas. Bach’s attire, his material, is musical vibration.
